Pangolino
Charles works with over 125 hunters around Nigeria’s Cross River National Park. He is on the verge of implementing a community-based intervention that will work with hunters to become pangolin guardians and incentivize communities to stop poaching pangolins. He is leading the first pangolin-focused field project in Nigeria and is raising awareness of pangolins in the country through interviews on local and national radio with a collective audience of over 20 million people. He also organised the first ‘Run for Pangolins’ on 2021 World Pangolin Day and raised over USD 9,000 for pangolin conservation. He founded Pangolino, an initiative aimed at raising awareness of pangolins through arts and science communication, that has over 2,000 followers on social media. Charles is an active member of the IUCN SSC Pangolin Specialist Group and IUCN World Commission on Protected Areas.
